about
Ruth Hooper

Texas born and raised, daughter of informally trained artists and craftspeople, I draw inspiration from folk traditions, especially from the arts of the Mexican Dias de los Muertos, the European Danse Macabre, the Haitian Vodou banner, and the Colonial American needle arts.

I offer these works as an homage to the artists of cultures that express attunement to the cycles of life and to our place in the natural world. I offer these works with the hope that with inspiration from those artists, ancient and modern, the dominant culture may find its way to more sustainable ways of living.
